War and Peace
Vocalist, singer/songwriter, and guitarist Syd Straw first made a name for herself as part of the Golden Palominos, a band led by Anton Fier that enjoyed a cult following in the 1980s. First of All I'd like to thank my friends and new acquaintances for coming to my house concerts and supporting the arts, these musicians, and also helping to validate how important it is for these musicians to be heard. Competing with noise in some venues is such a shame.
I like to ask guests to bring a small snack to share during the intermission, and bring your preferred beverage, I'll have coffee and some soft drinks.
Why do we love house concerts? First of all to promote/ support a fine musician/singer or a fabulous band!
From experience in the business and also going to performances in restaurants/pubs, we know that to truly enjoy an artist(s) for their music the setting must be just right.
Many times I've gone to hear some favorite solo artists or bands at our local watering holes and some of the patrons were just too loud (chatty) or people were eating and talking while the performer sang... I was wishing I could take them home and ask them to play where I could listen better.
So, I decided to host a few concerts in my home; I even took a partial wall down to open up the big downstairs living room to the kitchen area. Having an intimate setting, where the musicians can be heard clearly, is so important to me. And guests can have their coffee or wine and sip leisurely.
The House Concert is a "new" phenomena and is gaining in popularity. Many music lovers have never experienced anything like it!
Brick Hill House Concerts is working on garnering a fine email list of loyal concert goers :-)
"Please note: "Brick Hill House Concerts" is simply the name we choose to describe our private parties, in our private home. These parties are NOT a business nor are they a business related activity. They are strictly a hobby for us, and are simply gatherings of our friends and guests to enjoy live acoustic music, fellowship, food (a potluck dessert buffet) and fun. Our concert parties are officially free (or else it might be considered a business), although voluntary contributions (suggested donation of anywhere from $25 per person) are accepted at the party on behalf of the artists. 100% of all contributions go directly to the performers. By invitation only.
I have a tip jar, in order to cover some of my costs.
I am a 2024 member of Folk Alliance International, and am an official House Concert venue.
It is vital that you let me know if you can't attend, so I can offer the seat to someone else. Thank you - Dinah Mellin
